Most materials from the library collection check out for one week and may be renewed for one week. Students are allowed to check out from 1-3 items depending on their grade level. Students, with their teacher’s permission, may return during the week to check out new materials. Students who have an overdue book are not allowed to check out new materials until the book is returned or paid for by the family. Kindergarten through sixth grade classes have regularly scheduled, weekly library times. During their library time, students are taught library skills, read a variety of types of literature, and are introduced to authors and illustrators. Students are working hard to learn how to find books they can read on their level.
Joy Elementary School students have 1:1 technology, including Chromebooks and tablets. Students use these devices for core curriculum, testing, writing reports, researching, and other activities that support classroom work. Classrooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard and document projector.
